History of Holy Rosary College Uwani Enugu
Holy Rosary College Uwani Enugu was founded on February 2nd 1935 by His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Charles Heerey C.S. Sp. the Archbishop of Onitsha. It began in waterside Onitsha as a teacher training college for girls with 8 pioneer students under the leadership of the first principal, Rev Sr M. Baptist Heraghty.
As the population of the students increased, the waterside site in Onitsha could no longer accommodate the students. On May 1, 1940, the college was moved to Ihiala where a larger area had been acquired. The population continued to increase so much that the Ihiala layout could no longer accommodate the college.
In January 1948 the HRC College was moved to Enugu, it’s present site. The college continued to operate as a teachers training college until November 1986 when the school was converted to a secondary school. The transition from Teachers training college to Secondary school was piloted by then Principal Chief (Mrs) Onwuagha.
Chief (Mrs) Onwuagha created a conducive environment for discipline and academic excellence and instilled in the students positive attitudes and values, order, neatness and discipline for which H.R.C. students are noted.
In 1992, Holy Rosary College Enugu pioneer set of the secondary school students graduated.
